Welcome to the forum. The 16 is worth up $1000 or more if same as new. It will drive tack's with the 32 long. Not to many around, guy's on here will pull thier teeth to get one. Hold on to it and enjoy. Here is a parts gun I built to get one like yours. I now call it a 10/32 .

Thanks for the info John. Thats a great looking pistol there. If it ever warms up around here I will take it back out and shoot it some more. I didn't think it would be worth anywhere close to what you are estimating. Take care. dave

What is the story behind your custom 16, Bullseye Smith? I can see using any K-frame as a base, but what about the barrel? Who did the work? What did it run? I'd like a Model 16 like yours but with a non-lug barrel.

I built the gun from parts from Numrich gun parts. Got a model 10 off GB for $115, the barrel and cylinder where $220. Then the scope mount was $20 at the time. So I have somewhere around $350 dollars in it. So a friend called it a 10/32 and that it's name. She will drive tack's at 25 yards. Plus it burn's my buddies butt's when I out shoot thier $1200 32 long's auto's in Bullseye.
dc that gun will go for a $1000 dollar bill. It should look like this one.

I have an S&W 16-4 (6") and have been very happy with it. I bought when they first hit the market. These days, I mostly shoot a Group Buy 100 gr SWC cast bullet in .32 S&W Long cases ahead of 2.8 grs of 231 with CCI or Federal SP primers.
This is also a superb edible small game caliber.

i too have a very pretty 16-4...many collectors seek these out....i recently saw one on gunbrokers for $1400.00...a collector from europe posted here recently that he paid $1600.00 for his...so yes, they can and do sell for $1000.00+ like most all collectable items however, condition is everything, there is a world of price differance between a 90% gun and a 98% one...as i recall the 16-4 was only produced between about 1989-1992..so not many around

Yep John, thats what it looks like. Not a mark on it. Heck at those kinda prices it just might need to find a new home. I have shot it around 75 times with factory ammo. Cleaned it up and put it away. I think I might try Dales load in it. I bought a bunch of cast wadcutters for it when I got the pistol. I think 90 grainers. Haven't tried them yet. Will 32 mag brass shoot as well as 32 long? Looks like I have some more reloading to do. Oh well, not much else to do around here till it warms up . thanks again. dave

If you are going to load Wad cutters in the 16-4 you will want to keep the powder charge below what you can shoot with the SWC's. Wadcutters typically seat flush and seriously reduce the case capacity. Further, shooting Hollow Base Wadcutters present a serious safety problem if you over charge them - the danger is leaving a skirt in the barrel when the overcharge causes the bullet to separate the base from the nose. Using a hollow base wadcutter in the S&W Long case, the maximum charge in the Hornady manual is 2.5 grs of 231. You will find that a very useful charge for target and edible small game use.
If you are using the .32 H&R Magnum cases, the same bullet with 2.8 grs to 3.1 grs will give you approximately the same velocity (and same pressure).
There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with using Hollow Base Wadcutters, but you MUST remember their pressure limitations. I have shot several thousand Hornady HBWC's in my 16-4 with excellent results:
This is ten shots at 25 yards, standing, using the above load. These handguns are extremely pleasant to shoot with target loads and they get a LOT of attention from me.
This is my 6" 16-4. It is shown with a scope. I now have a Red Dot on it. The Dot sight is more compact and works extremely well for me:
