I'm looking for a fitted leather holster (thumbreak) for my Model 22-4 revolver. Any good sources? I'm trapped in Illinois, so it doesn't have to be for concealed carry

Cross-draw option would be nice - but anything that fits would be OK.

TIA

PS - matching carriers for 1/2 or full-moon clips, as well as a drop pouch for Auto Rim rounds would also be nice.

Some holster experts will no doubt be along shortly...

I like the Bianchi Cyclone 111 and have good luck poking around at gun shows when there is no rush to find exact leather..

Good luck.

I have a model 22-4 that rides in a zip-up pistol rug. I will be watching to see what the more knowlegable experts say.

I have just had Milt Sparks make me one of his PMK holsters for mine. This is the fifth holster he has made for me. Nothing but the best quality at good prices. Check out thier website he has several options, even shark skin if you want it. I dont even look around any more I just get online and order. It takes about 8 to 10 weeks because its just a five man shop and they refuse to risk quality. If you give them your credit card they will not charge you until the day they ship.I dont have the website adress handy but just Google in Milt Sparks and youll get it.I interchange this holster between my 22-4 and my 21-4.

jmoore, I've tried to post a picture for you but I am not able to post pictures. Send me your e-mail adress if you would like to see my holster.

El Paso Saddlery makes an attractive thumbbreak holster (among other things) and can do one in crossdraw (I need crossdraw myself).

JM,

Being like you, a good holster is near indespensible for carrying (range or otherwise). I don't mess with thumb breaks, as I have never carried them (outside of my LEO duty rig for my 1911s).

At any rate, try Dillon Precision. They carry the Mitch Rosen Express line. The best holster for your Model 22-4 (I have two 21-4s) is the 5JR-DL black leather holster for the light barreled N-Frame guns (Dillon Stk # F73-18824). At $75, they are priced well. They will last a lifetime. They WILL retain the revolver with a tight friction fit.

No offense to Bianchi folks (my brother-in-law works for them in Kalifornia), but their leather is soft and loses its shape rather quickly (1-2 years of use), hence the thumb break. The Milt Sparks is one of the best holsters around...if you want to wait for 4-6 months. I have two and waited around 6-months...well worth the wait, mind you.

I've never had El Paso stuff (looks great, by the way). If you want a holster (and a good one at that), get the Mitch Rosen Express. you won't be sorry! While you're at it, get their 1-1/2" belt. It's a dandy! BTW: The holster is slotted for 1-1/2" belts.

Hope this helps!

I try not to tell another man what he is to like or not like but I have used the Bianchi 5 BHL (The L means it is lined I believe. It can be had unlined) as a duty holster and it worked quite well. It has extra belt slots so it works on a Sam Brown or a dress belt. It is thumb snap and comes in black or brown. In addition, it pulls in tight for concealment. Personally " in the day" my weapon presentation was as fast with a thumb break as without. You may want to give it a look if you prefer strong side carry.

All the best with your quest.

Bill

PS May I suggest you have a safety strap of some kind for safey and legal reasons.

jmoore, did the pictures come thru ok?

If you're not dead-set on the thumb break, consider a Kramer vertical scabbard.
