I just picked up my new 442 today. It was part of a trade and I live in liberal California and had to wait 10 days.
When I got it home I noticed there is some slight rotation play in the cylinder when closed.
Should I be concerned or is this normal? Thank you.

Hi,
My old 442 and a recent one I picked up both have what I would call a little bit of slight rotation play as well. I'll bet it is normal if it is just a slight amount.
Good luck,
Alan

I haven't noticed an unusual amount in mine, but since it's hammerless, you can't just cock the hammer to see how it locks up... have you dry-fired it, and check the play/lock-up before releasing the trigger? I'll bet there's not as much then.

I see cylinder play (in lockup) on most new SW revos that I examine. It doesn't really affect accuracy much.
Even if the gun is properly fitted for tight lockup, all revos gradually develop play as you use them. They have to get pretty bad before you have to fit a new hand.

Thanks for the replies. It's not too bad so I'll just forget about it. You know how we get with our new "babies".

For what it's worth, I got a hold of S&W and they said it's perfectly normal.

What would be a good price on a used 442 in very good condition? I saw one yesterday for $300. Don't mean to take over your post, just wondering when I saw you talking about 442s.

My newer 442 also has the slight amount of play that you describe.
Doesn`t seem to affect the operation at all.
Regards, Pete
