I am about to buy or trade for a S&W 360Sc that was shot a few time and traded back to selling dealer. It is the 3 1/8 inch "kit gun" with HiViz front sight and adj rear sight. The OTD price is $625, but I am thinking about trading my new 60-14 that is still new and unfired in on the kit gun.

Since I did not buy the 60 for a range gun, but to be a CCW and car gun the weight of the 60 is like having a brick in my pocket. Not too sure I should have traded my 642-2 off now, but I wanted a 357 since I reload for the 357 and not the 38 special.

The thing I need to find out is if anyone has the 360Sc Kit Gun model and how they like the gun and if anyone had had problems with the gun.

I have been looking on some of the gun auction sites and could not find any for sale. To me that seems to say that the people who bought them liked them and have not turned them loose.

I dont have a 360 kit gun but I do have a 340PD and I find it to be just about the best CCW piece I've ever owned. It was designed to be carried often and shot seldom.

It is NOT a range gun though. Firing it is akin to having a friend punch you in the palm. You can take it but dont want to spend the day doing it.

I've never weighed both but it is my impression that 5 rounds of 158 gr. Hydra shoks weigh more than the gun.

Mine has an aftermarket front night sight and a CT grip installed to aid in aiming as a belly gun.

As far as I can tell there was two different offerings of the 360Sc Kit Gun and this is the one that came in the metal case and I believe it was a no dash. I seem to remember hearing that the kit guns were PC guns back then, but were later done on regular assembly line and came in standard plastic box.

The single action is smooth as butter and very light (maybe 2 lbs) however the DA mode is quite heavy, but smooth.

Oner of my problems is none seem to be out on the auctions for sale and at $625 out the door that is probably more then the gun sold new. But dang it I sure like the gun. So am I being crazy for paying that much?

Old Navy,

That gun sold for more than $625 new. I had a chance to buy one of these a couple of times and now wish I had. The Adj Sights, Exposed Hammer and 3 1/8" barrel might not be the best platform for pocket carry however. Recoil can be downright painful with full house .357s. With .38 specials, it should be easily manageable, if not downright pleasant to shoot.

FWIW,

Paul

To be brutally honest, I have a 60, 36 and 340Sc, as well as a Glock 26, but it's nearly always the 340Sc that gets CCW'd. There's just no comparison in the weight and size departments. I agree with the post above -- the 5 rounds weigh more than the gun. Not pleasant to shoot, but it's so light you'll never mind toting it along just in case. If you ever need a reminder, just carry something else for a day or two and you'll get a quick reality check.

When weight isn't an issue, such as during heavy winter clothes season, I might go with something a bit heftier. But even then, it's the 340Sc that often gets the call to duty.

Foolish boy. Thats when an N frame is your friend! A big ole N frame. Why scrimp? It just feels good on your side. The coat hides it. And you can support it with a proper gun belt, not a sissy little dress belt. Case closed!

I love my N frame and it would CCW of choice except I have arthritis of the spine bad and am not suppose to lift more then 10lb, but some days it seems like a heavy winter coat will just be too much for me.

That said back in the day I never liked the big guns on the hip, and would even dress in summer to carry with shoulder holster. I those days I carried a Colt 1911 in a Jackass Shoulder rig, with gun on one side and two mags on other side.
