When these first came out there was more than a suggestion that you could remove the fixed rear sight and replace it with an adjustable one. Just unscrew one and screw in the other.

I was considering buying one so I called Smith and asked if this was true. Got an absolute NO! Something about the slot in the top of the gun not being the right shape.

Well the other day I e-mailed them and asked if I bought one could I send it in and have an adjustable rear sight fitted. They e-mailed back and said that a regular rear sight would fit BUT that the rear sight blade would be the wrong height. Not entirely sure what that means but... So I asked again, could I have a rear sight fitted. Haven't heard back yet.

Anyone done this, i.e. put in a regular adjustable rear sight?

Also anyone shot one of these 44 Magnums a lot? If so what do you think of it>

If you've ever seen an adjustable sight revolver with the rear sight assembly completely removed from the top strap, you'd notice this. In the very rear area of the top strap, just ahead and above milling where the hammer comes to rest, is an additional cut that creates a slot for the anchoring of the elevation screw. Never having seen one of the N/G's with the H/D sight removed, I've no idea if that extra machining step mentioned above is taken on the top strap of them? They're SO new that knowledge of that particular area might be pretty limited?
Short answer is I don't know? But it sure is an interesting question to know the answer too!

I just put a night guard sight on my 686 SSR, but I don't know about going the other way because I don't have a night guard.

My 386 Nightguard has the milled slot for the rear sight stud. You should be able to put a current configuration adjustable sight on one with no problem.

Hmmm?,
All of a half an hour to answer a question that far out in left field? Hell! You couldn't get a phone message listened to in that amount of time anywhere!
I LOVE this place!

Just to be sure, I swapped the sights on my NightGuard with the ones on my SSR. Perfect fit in both cases. I like the NG sight on the SSR.
