Two "prototype" Model 629s (both serial numbered in the N629000 range) made in the summer of 1978 to test S&W's tooling for the new stainless 44 Magnum. One was kept in S&W's Engraving Department and engraved and inlaid with gold by Wayne D'Angelo in 2001.

Bullseye - a 629-1 with full underlug and unfluted cylinder? Is it a 'special'?
My 629-1 don't look like that.

Here's my 629-2 which started life with an 8 3/8" barrel. I like it this way.
Complete Predator package from Mag-Na-Port plus trijicon sights, 11 degree forcing cone and dual ball bearing detents on the crane.

That is a nice 2.5 inch. Was that a Lew Horton or a production gun? Thanks.

Swenson, Im not for sure that Its a Lew Horton gun or not, I bought it a few years back from a forum member. I do know that very few in this configuration was made. But for a 2 1/2 fixed sighted 629 it shoots dead on at 15 yds.

No wonder there isn't any at the shows for sale, you guys and gal's have them all locked up or under the flower shirt. Great looking guns people, almost makes you want to collect just 629's.

I posted this one a few weeks ago, but maybe it's worth bringing back given the subject of this thread.
