New 442-1!
Christmas came early for me! Got myself a brand new 442 without the lock! Looking forward to breaking it in and it will be another addition to my carry lineup for when I don't feel like packing a model 19. Not sure why the first photo is upside down ha. Once it's all broken in, I'll be carrying with Speer gold dot 135 gr +P's.

Thank you whitestang. How does it handle with regular practice rounds? I'm young so I'd like to think I can handle a couple cylinders of +P with no problem.

It is a nice little gun, it is my daily carry. I have a Remora holster that fits perfectly in my front pocket and leaves no print. I also use the Speer Gold dot 135 P+ as my carry round, it has excellent ballistics and is designed for a short barrel gun.
I use basic 38 ammo for practice, but always end my practice with my carry rounds. Yes the P+ rounds do bark, but not that bad. I carry strip loaders as they are easy to conceal, however, I would suggest you practice loading. I replaced the stock grips for Pachmayr Diamond Pro grips. They are easier to grip and do not change the print that much.

Great choice. I practice with 158 lead RN rounds, and carry 158 gr LSWCHPs in it. Comforting to have around, especially in the pocket of my Christmas jammies!

I have the same gun, only a 642 (no lock, moon clip cut). For a light gun, practice rounds are suprisingly a joy to shoot, +P a little more harsh, but still manageable. I too carry the Speer Gold Dot rounds, great for short barrel guns.
Enjoy the 442, no doubt you will. They are just so damn easy to carry.

Just purchased one of these for carry. Unfortunately, had to return to gun for repair as the barrel was canted to the right. Consequently, it shot left about 2" at 7 yards.
Hopefully, they will resolve the issue and I'll have it back before too long.
OP....great Christmas gift....hope you enjoy it.

Enjoy!
That is the pistol I have on my next to buy list to replace a Kahr P380 I've carried for a few years. I carried a 3" 65 for years, until I started playing with auto's (compact and full size). I've come to the conclusion that I really miss my old wheelguns. They were good, solid, and dependable carry guns.

Thanks gents! I was concerned about the same thing, thankfully mine is not canted. That's the biggest issue I was worried about. Unless it doesn't go bang, I'm not gonna lose sleep over much else.
Merry Christmas!

Another thing to check for is a hairline crack in the frame under the forcing cone. Sometimes when the barrel is torqued in place during assembly it can cause the frame to crack. From what I've read it's pretty rare, probably even less common than canted barrels, but it is something to check for. It was one of the first things I did when I inspected my new 642 before accepting delivery and after my first couple of range trips. Use a strong light and a magnifying glass.

Congrats on your new revolver. I believe you will enjoy it.
I have one of the old Model 42's with the smaller original grips. It is a great carry gun. I think the big difference is the more cushioned and larger grips on yours. One gets tired of just shooting mine after three or four cylinders of regular loads.

The ahrends grips are nice but it doesn't say anything on the site about checkering?

Ahrends doesn't offer checkering.
My favorite grips are Spegel boot grips. Compact but hand-filling. Good control. He's also the only grip maker I'm aware of who makes Centennial grips that go up the full height of the grip frame. Here's a picture of my previous 642-1 with Spegel boot grips. Mine are smooth, but he offers checkering as an option.

Congrats on the 442! I ccw mine often and enjoy shooting it. Using standard range loads it's easy for me to shoot and not too bad (IMO) with the +P loads (I prefer REM GS 125-gr +P).

Thanks guys, the grips going up full height may not quite bother me. For the time being, I'm set on getting some altamont's since they are checkered and affordable. I am assuming since they are in stock that they should ship immediately

I had one once. Left the garage door open one night and sometime "borrowed" it out of my pickup. NCIC has the serial number. Maybe I'll get it back some day. Still have the box and included paperwork awaiting its return. Keep your garage doors down.

No garage for me yet! But I am as vigilant as I can be and lock everything up before I leave my apartment

Took the new revolver out shooting, good news is that it works ha. Bad news is that I got a squib from freedom munitions. It's pretty close to the breech. How do you guys typically handle them? I will contact freedom tomarrow and let them know about the squib load. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1452048392.751167.jpg

Got the squib out, punched it out the muzzle first (wrong way ha...) with a screw driver (it was a hollow point) and a rubber mallet.
