Default 686 "M"

Hello,
I have had this no dash 686 for a while, and have always wondered what S&W did to fix the "cylinder binding issue".

I don't see anything obviously different, so I am guessing the factory did something internally to fix the defect on the early models.

Curious if anyone here can shed some light on what took place at the factory to remedy the problem, other than stamp the "M" above the model number to signify that the factory modified the revolver.

I believe the fix was a replacement Firing Pin and Firing Pin Bushing. One of the experts may have more information.

Correct, the factory calls the part the "hammer nose".
