Dealing with a very nice S&W 686-4 "Practical Champion" revolver, s/n CBU99xx. Need to remove the one-piece (looks like laminate/composite) grips. Removed the screw (like in 2-piece grips) and grips will not budge. Is there a procedure for removing the grip for cleaning of the action and normal maintenance?

Have searched the S&W manuals and the web - could find nothing. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The grips could be squeezed on there good and tight--sometimes they're like that. What I usually do is to take the grip screw and push it back in the hole (but don't screw it down), and use it to push the grip on the other side off the frame with a screwdriver pushing on the screw head.

(I can't see any pictures here at work if you've posted any)
