Maybe you're thinking of the 625-2 marked "Model of 1988".

As far as I know, all the 627-0 guns were marked "Model of 1989"

Cool

That revolver pictured in that ad should be S&W product code 101024. The one pictured below certainly is.

These began production during the original 627 engineering revision and ran all the way through the -2 engineering revisions. Of the almost 5300 revolvers produced, the largest segment was during the -0 engineering revision, this is part of the reason that folks want to mistakenly associate an engineering revision with a specific configuration of firearm. My example pictured above is a -1.

The correct grips are the wood grips pictured on mine, not the Hogue rubbers pictured in the ad.

Unhappy

The more I think about it the more unsure I am that it came with the Factory smooth, round butt, combat grips that are on mine. I will have to check my records at home or pull the box out and look at the end label.

BTW, my preference with the configuration is for a -1 or newer. I had always planned on mounting a scope. The -1 frames are already drilled and tapped for the mount.

Yes,
The topstrap is checkered on S&W product code 101024 irregardless of engineering revision.

You're really gonna like this gun. I've had my -0 for several years and it's my go-to revolver when I feel like busting 357's. I also carry it cross draw in a flap holster when riding my 4-wheeler. It will definately ruin a snake's day.

I did not know they made a -1 version. I have never seen a -1 627, but wondered what they were. I have two -0's and two -2's, so was curious. I have been lusting after the 5" 6 shot fluted cylinder 627 forever, which I suspect would be a -1, and in the process have bought the ones listed above. The -2 does not have the checkered topstrap and barrel rib and the backstrap is not grooved like on the -0. However, it does have the interchangeable front sight.
