Got just got me a very nice old K38 (pre 14) made 1953, as old as myself. At dry firing it knocks the firing pin bushing in the frame out so the cylinder cannot close with rounds in. I tapped the bushing back and firing with live rounds works just fine. Cannot send it to S&W for repair since I live on the other side of the pond. Any ideas how to fix this are very welcome. Have been thinking about pushing bushing back and lock it in place by one punch mark at each side of it. Or, knock the bushing completely out and Locktite it back, anybody tried any of this.

Dryfire with snap caps.

Locktite will work, just don't over do it as it seeps everywhere.

You can also try deforming the outside of the bushing. Tap it with a hammer to make it out of round. This would make it tighter and harder to move.

Since it's a old gun, I'd do the locktite trick also, make sure everything is perfectly degreased before using the locktite.

Clea all parts well, and degrease with 97% alcohol. Use fresh Locktite, I like the permanent 'stud and bearing'.

Let it cure for three days or so. I did one three years ago, and it is doing fine.
