I have an old M53 with the auxiliary .22LR cylinder, and it's charge holes are smooth as glass. Allows easy loading and light pressure on the ejector rod empties the gun easily, even after several hundred rounds. My recent M17 is not so smooth, and gets painful after about 50 rounds, when attempting to eject the empties. I notice a large difference in the cylinder bore's finish, and am wondering if anyone knows of a good method to polish the cylinder holes in a .22LR cylinder? I would like to be able to just polish the holes, and not resort to a finishing reamer if possible.

I have NOT done this with a .22 but I have polished a few .38 cylinders, and barrels, with SemiChrome. Cylinders are easier to load, the bore is easier to clean.

yes, you can polish the chambers, we've done it for years, but remember, you want to"polish" them, NOT remove any material,elongate or distort the chamber in any way................

My method: cut a Q-tip in half and chuck it in your Dremel. Put a little bit of Flitz polish on it. Run it on slow speed and be gentle.
Again, remove NO metal!

Compare the headspace at the back of the cylinder between the 53 and 17. I'm thinking the 17 may have a bit too much. If so, shims will tighten it up, assuming you have the B/C gap to spare.

I have a Manson finishing (chamber) reamer for 22 LR cylinders. Works much better and leaves a very good surface finish.

I've used a new wool bore mop chucked in an electric drill, start out with JB Compound to remove any minor roughness and/or corrosion and finish with flitz. It is best to use a variable speed drill and moderate speed. Clean with Bore Blaster or similar when done to remove any of the polishing material you used, follow with a light application of oil. I had a pre 34 kit gun with the same problem you've described.

Sounds like the easiest & cheapest method by far, since I have all of the ingredients. I'll give it a go this weekend and see what happens before I buy a hone or reamer.

I've used an old .22cal Rifle(they are longer) bore brush with a bit
of 0000 steel wool. Chuck it up in a variable speed drill an go slow.

I tried the Mop with JB Bore Cleaner compound followed up with the old brass brush wrapped in 0000 Steel Wool. Went to the range this morning and wonder of wonders, the Federal 771B and the CCI SV both ejected with a light hand tap on the ejector rod
The Wolf MT was snug going in, and required a good smack to get out, so I'll repeat the process next day off I get. The Model 17 likes the Federal best anyway, so I am a happy camper. I don't need to carry my little brass hammer with me to the silhouette match anymore.
