Default cylinder trouble shooting

What would cause the cylinder to move rearward (toward the shooter) when in the open position and the ejector rod is pushed to extract casings? What would it take to fix this? Thanks.

When in the open position, the rearward movement of the cylinder is regulated by the frame lug-thats the little projection at the lower right corner of the cylinder window when looking at the left side of the weapon.

The movement of the cylinder you describe in this position is normal, so long as the cylinder doesn't over ride the frame lug and the end of the cylinder engages the lug.

Frame lug is worn. New part about $3.00. Or some have tapped it out a bit and fixed problem.

Asked the same question myself.

The part is called a frame lug. It keeps the cylinder on the frame. Without it, the cylinder falls off the gun.

If it's worn the cylinder falls off or sticks and then it's not that hard to repair. It's staked (peened in place) from the inside.

The new guns don't have this part, because they use throw away frames today.

Before replacing the lug, make sure the yoke isn't bent. Could be a bent yoke doing this too.
