Default Newbie with a questions

I just recently purchased an older model 38 that is nickle finished and some of it is starting to come off, what should i do? Can I strip the frame sense it is alloy and is the barrel and cylinder stainless or nickle over raw steel? Do you think S&W can refinish it and how much do you think something like that would cost if they will? Thanks for all the help!

Smith can refinish it, check on thier web site for a price, or you can have it hard chromed and it will be good for ever. The finish will look like stainless.

Nickel plating is a bit more complex than taking off the old and putting on the new, so perhaps it is best left to the factory? Here is the link:
