Default Duracote effect on tolerance?

I have a underused (SS) S&W 1911 slide sitting in the safe leftover since adding a Marvel .22 conversion to it's frame. I have other 1911's (including a twin S&W) so I haven't had "need" to use it. It's just dawned on me that it just might be the perfect winter project to tweak this hardware for our informal pin shoots. I'm going to duracote the slide, change the sights out to fiber optics and fit a compensated barrel.

So here's the question.

I'm thinking that the extractor and sights should be removed before refinishing the SS slide. (Yes?)However, I'm concerned about how to get the new sights back on without marring the new finish around the sights as I press them in. So any tips/experience? Should I just thin out the sight base?
Also concerned if the I'll have any interfearence in the extractor slot.

Any experience appreciated.

Dave
