Default hammer mounted firing pin

I have recently acquired a k-frame that the hammer mounted firing pin appears to be occasionally hitting the frame. The firing pin will hang in the up position and will not clear the cut out for the assembly. Anyone seen this issue?

Does the hammer nose move up & down freely? Put some breakfree or other lubricant on the sides of the hammer nose and move the nose up & down to get the lubricant down between the sides of the nose and the hammer, and see if that helps. What type of K frame do you have? If it is one with the spring behind the hammer nose, it may be jamming and forcing the nose to its most upward position.

Possibly the hammer nose rivet has been installed too tightly and is causing the problem.

I bought a Model 65 4" for 125$ as a police trade in from an officer who said hammer noses will not live in it for long.

he said its the smoothest action sw revolver he has ever felt. for $125, I could not go wrong.

I ordered a new hammer nose and rivet and noticed the cut out in the frame was like a wavy river (machine marks on the inside) on the top underside of the u-cut out for the hammer.

I installed the hammer nose and slowly lowered observing the hammer nose move to one side and then the other indicating it was up against the wavy river machine marks.

out comes dremel....smooth out the marks and has been running 100% ever since.

the gun has more scratches on it than saturday night on main street. its my service revolver I use in matches. I need to modify the sight to a patridge as the integral ramp and the sun are not friends of mine.

I figure it was likely a dry fire gun or a take away trainer for years and was "ruff" handled and trigger stroked for yearsssss. its an accurate piece.
