Default Swapping barrels

Will any barrel from any N frame fit my Brazilian 1917? If so, will I need to change ejector rods? For instance, a 1955 barrel with the lug, and the 1955 has a different ejector rod. I hope I'm making sense.

Frame threads are the same. BUT barrel changing needs proper tooling to hold barrel as well as frame.
THEN again tooling to proper fit barrel to have proper fit to cylinder, barrel/cylinder gap.
Whole job an exercise in futility.
Suggest you look for another gun save"Brazilan" it as is.
Save money and be ahead with a later safer genuine S&W Factotry built
N frame revolver.

I'll second tired gunsmith's post.
I'm certainly not an expert but unless you can do the majority of work yourself, be ready to spend more than the project will likely be worth.
Not to mention, on top of the dollar amount, be prepared to wait some time (months) as most quality smiths seem to be very busy.

Agree with above and would add that the raised rib on a post war target site barrel will not mate up cosmetically with a pre war frame,
Also the pre war ejector rod has a larger barrel end where post war versions are straight rod, likewise pre war barrels are cut for the larger barrel end rod where post war barrels are usually not.

I figured as much. Thanks for the replies. I may look at cutting my Brazilian. I want a decent revolver in .45 cap that I can carry. I can't spend a thousand bucks on a 625, or 325, though those would be my first choices.
