Any down-side to polishing your pistol?
I bought a 5906 with some damage to the slide and I decided to file, sand, and polish the damage away.
Not sure if I have ever seen this done to this model of pistol before, but I kinda like how it turned out.

Well, that mirror finish is like a black car: shows every spec, mark, and fingerprint. Whatever you prefer; the gun shoots the same.

Looks good. All of the Smith's I own are stainless and all of them have been polished.Sure they show fingerprints, but fingerprints wipe off. With the factory satin finish on stainless you will see every little scratch and ding, they will wear on edges from just sliding in and out of a holster, and just generally look like **** IMO. Nothing wrong with polishing if it is done correctly.

Thanks fella!
I'm glad to see you picked up on how I worded the title!
Thanks for all the other comments.
Would it look better to polish the frame, as well, or leave it as is?
Just curious what everyones thoughts are, as I could go either way at this point, because I don't think it looks bad two-toned.

While the fell outta my holster look "Before" pic is horrible I still prefer satin stainless over polished stainless in a semi auto.
Strangley the opposite holds true for Nickel as I prefer polished nickel over satin Nickle .

Here is my 5906 that was a police trade and I polished the entire gun. I enjoy doing this and I like the look.

It looks cool two toned. But I like polished pistols too. Maybe you should just buy another one and polish it. Then I won't have to decide.

That IS nice!
I guess that's one way of getting rid of the department names and holster wear!
Thanks for posting the picture!
