I have a 586 L-Comp with a pinned front tritium dot ramp sight that has been dead forever. I would like to replace it with something like a red ramp or fiber optic sight.

First, it seems like it should just be a matter of pushing out the pin, swapping the sight, and replacing the pin (I gather a special punch is needed). Is this all that's involved?

Second, where are the best places to look for these sights? Is it best to get them from Smith or is there a better source?

While you can find the sights at Brownells, Midway or Dillon you may want to contact Trijicon customer service about re-lamping your front sight. As far as I know, they supplied the original sight to Smith and Wesson.

Well, that's interesting, and worth considering. Though I always wondered why the dot was already pretty much dead when I got it in 2005 or '06 considering the original L-Comps were year 2000 guns.
