"The S&W Revolver: A Shop Manual" by Jerry Kuhnhausen...can't seem to track one down?
I just got through checking ~10 different sites via Google for a copy of the S&W Shop Manual, but they were all sold out...the only ones I did find were between $80-$125! Anyone have any ideas as to where I could get a copy at a more reasonable price? Thanks, everyone...

I bought a copy from Midway just a couple of weeks ago, but I see they're now out of stock. Have you tried direct from the publisher?

I looked, and that one seemed the most promising, but they seem to have a different way of ordering than is standard on most websites. I wont be able to call them to see if they're in stock 'til monday :/ I know I can just watch youtube videos, but I'd love to have the actual shop manual.

A quick check of Amazon.com has the selling price around $80! What's that about?

Midway shows them as expected in stock on 2-27. My experience is that most things come in early. but you would need to place a backorder.

I noticed that, but my only backorder experience w/ midway had me waiting another month past it's "should be in stock" date It reached the date, then added another month. Maybe the local library would have it??

If you don't mind a used book, you should be able to find one for around $30 on Amazon or eBay.

Thanks...I'll go check 'em out. People get a little crazy on ebay though :/ Does anyone know if there are different editions, revisions, or copyright dates?

EBay currently has 3 listed, all new, from $24 to $29+ shipping. Go to ebay.com and search for "Smith & Wesson book"

try Randy Duckett Rdgunbooks - Home I bought one from him at a show for @ $25. He said he tries to keep them in stock, but they go fast. When I bought mine he had 2 left, 20 +/- minutes later I walked by looking for a different book and he was sold out. Good luck

I just looked on google, and saw the book at Brownell's, and at Midway USA…and on amazon too. I didn't go further than that because I want to be pretty sure I'm going to be able to address my particular issue, which is polishing and smoothing the trigger pull on my two DA S&W snubbies: 442 and 43C. Does anyone know for sure if that process is covered satisfactorily in this book? The 43C is new, and the trigger pull is just not good at all––very rough and un-smooth from beginning to end. There are jumps and hang-ups, and all that kind of "toy gun" kind of feel. The 442 is better, but it could still be better than what it is. I dream of a buttery feeling that stays the same from first pressure to hammer drop. Can that be achieved??

I bought that book based on review from others here and it was a great introduction to these fine revolvers. Not all inclusive but a great head start. I still use it for reference when needed, along with this forum, google, YouTube etc......

Just go to YouTube. Then, in the search space at the top, type in "Smith and Wesson disassembly. You'll be able to click on a whole bunch of options (some of them good, some of them not-so-good). Good luck.

I think Krause publications puts those books out. I'm simply amazed when you go on the web looking for firearm realated books, the prices you border on insanity. You can get a ratty old copy for a few bucks and a brand new one that will cost enough to pay off a third world counteris debt for a year. Especially an out of print book like the ones Frank De Hass did many years ago. I told my daughters check the prices on google sites that sell books and sell mine off to the highest bidder. Frank

I don't know what all the fuss is about, with the availability of this manual. I ordered one from Brownels 3/31/2014 for $24.99 + $7.95 shipping, and recieved it in around
four days. I have read several parts in the manual, and think that it lives up to it's reputation.

Well, I have spent quite a few hours following the Manual by Jerry Kuhnhausen replacing the hamer, and triger of a S&W mod.18, with a wide target triger, and wide target hammer. Got them In the revolver, but have never got the gun to work in double action. I have decided that if you are a gunsmith, which I have decided that I am not, anymore, that one could truly work on his revolvers, using this manual. I have give up on this project, and gunsmithing, I will have to find a good S&W gunsmith in the Columbus, Ohio area, to finish what I have started. Also I will not be using the brand new manual, as this ends my gunsmithing endevors, and anyone interested in buying it, let me know. I would like to get somewhere near what I paid for it, $25.00 + shiping.

A lot of times, you need to swap out the original double action sear from the old hammer to the new hammer.

The author is now deceased, and the book has not been updated for over 20 years, and I don't think is still in print. Whether or not more copies are being printed I don't know. The actions of S&W revolvers are all similar enough to the older ones that they are still useable and informative. I would assume Amazon or ebay would have some. I know my copy and my 1911 copy are both falling apart from use.
