I recently purchased an ultrasonic cleaner and was wondering what the fine folks here are using for cleaning and lubrication solutions. There are plenty of choices out there, but I can not justify $200 for fluids! There has to be a decent option that is wallet friendly. Oh yea and safe for blued S&W's and plastic M&P's!

The solution is mixed 4/5 to one.. buy a gallon for the 40 bucks or so.. ( Brownell's) and it makes 4 gallons.. that can be used over and over until wore out.. just put the used mix in a clean gallon container.. when it is wore out mix up another gallon..

As for the water displacing oil bath ... it can be recycled indefinitely.. I have had a gallon for over two years.. worse comes to worse filter through a coffe filter when the hot is still warm/hot..

My thought is that my guns are too valuable to leave to a
" homemade " brew or something that is not really made for the finish or is too strong.. or too weak.. there is something to be said for using the "Right Stuff"..

We spend a lot of money on guns.. and on the ultra sonic cleaner.. the proper fluids seem to be the right thing to do..

I use simple green, does a great job cleaning out primer pockets and does not leave that white residue. Some of the guys on the AR site use a solution of water, white vinegar and baking soda.

I use a quart of H2O and about a 1/4 tsp of dishwashing soap.

Are you using this for gun cleaning or for brass?

My intent as of now is to clean guns with the ultrasonic cleaner. At the range I used to work at we cleaned all of our rentals with the ultrasonic and it worked awesome.
Of course that model was about $1500 and had tanks that could be swapped out. We had two for cleaning and one for lubing. Of course that was about five years ago and I can not remember what the solvent was. The range has since closed as well.:(

OmegaBlue is a gentle water-based cleaning solution that doesn't remove bluing from carbon steel gun barrels. Ultrasonic Gun Cleaning System, Ultrasonic Machine for Firearms, Ultrasonic Handgun Cleaning — Gun and Firearms, Omegasonics Hope that helps!

Ultrasonic Gun Cleaning Process:
1. Use OmegaBlue at >130F and this will clean the oils without removing the bluing.
2.Rinse soap with water then air wash.
3. Dip the gun in ultrasonic with OmegaRust Protectant
4. Air wash
5. Oil mechanism
6. Reassemble

Hope that helps.

MPO 7 is what I have used in mine. I bought 1 gallon of Mpro7, and then 1 gallon of L&R Gun oil dip.

I run the gun stripped in mpro7 for 15 minutes. Scrub it, drip dry it and then drain the mpro through a filter back in the bottle. I then run the gun 15 minutes in the L&R gun oil and then let it drip. I then lube it as normal.

Works great on steel guns. I don't own any plastic ones so I can't comment but on steel its perfect. The guns come out surgically clean.
