The bottom one is round headed, and the back one, under the stocks is the flat headed one. Either will "work" in either hole, but it won't be right.

Weird, both rear screws on my 442 are round headed. They are the original screws that were on the gun when I bought it NIB. I was just wondering if the thread length was different on any of them.

If your gun came with rubber grips, it probably doesn't matter but if they came with wood grips, the right grip probably doesn't fit flat to the frame. Which does your gun have?

Both of mine are round also. I'd think the rubber grips are the reason. Come to think of it the 500 mag are all round too...

642 made in 2010, both screws are rounded, not flat. The grips are a wooden contoured boot grip.

Does the the right side wood grip have a dimple on the back side for the round head screw?

I'm sorry, I didn't receive any email notifications about the replies here. My 442 came with the rubber grips, and as I said both screws are round head.

No, the top of the grip doesn't go up that high or wide. All three screws are visible with the grip on.

Your gun has the correct screws then. If you want to change to wood grips, install the right grip tightly, then remove and just dimple the back of the right grip where the screw head leaves a mark. the tip of a 1/8" or 3/16" drill bit will do the job.
