Default spitting lead

My model 14 mstrpiece spits lead. Dosen't bother the shooter but anyone on left side gets terribly annoyed. I'm not sure if it does it on right side or not. Can't find a volunteer with eye protection to test this. Seriously, I have let others shoot the gun and have felt the lead myself from the left but never from the right and don't care to experience this on purpose.
I've checked the gun per Khunhausen book but that dosen't seem to be the problem. Any suggestions? Forcing cone is sparkling clean via LEM cleaning tool (lewis lead remover).

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

PS 99% of ammo fired in this rev. is 148 gr. full wadcutters.

I'm thinking it's either a timing issue or a hot load that's melting lead.

I had this problem recently with a new Model 317. But unlike your gun, I was his in the cheek/arm/wrist with every shot. I send the gun back to S&W on warranty and they bored the forcing cone. Solved the problem.

I would suggest alignment or possibly an uneven cylinder/barrel gap. Measure it at each side with a feeler gauge with the cylinder pulled back.

As far as testing it, just use a piece of cardboard. You'll see the spit pattern on a fresh piece.

I had one spit asymmetrically and it was too wide of a gap. No one could explain why it was on one side more than the other. I had the barrel set back to minimum and it is great now.

Are you sure it's lead and not powder? If the B/C gap is in spec it sounds like a forcing cone issue.

to determine if it is lead or powder, hold a sheet of white paper slightly in front of the cyl gap and fire a round. do this for both sides.

A sheet or ring section of cardboard might be better, Paper will shred from just gas escaping. Safety glasses are a good thing too!!
