It's the same hammer regardless of what they say. The "hammer assembly" number can be different depending on if your 1066 has a "short" or a "long" hammer stirrup....perhaps that's what he's talking about. The easy way to make the whole problem go away is to order just the hammer from MidwayUSA or S&W (if you really want to) and just use the hammer stirrup pin and hammer stirrup on from your bobbed hammer.
Your 1066 probably has a flash chromed hammer, and I'd bet S&W will sell you MIM hammer. Maybe you should look at MidwayUSA and see if it's in stock there. If it is, it'll probably be an assembly and you'll need to change out the stirrups to fit what your particular pistol uses. If you end up with a MIM hammer, MidwayUSA also sells the MIM black trigger which will match up...it matching is something important to you.
The 1066s, and early 4566s, are the only S&W 3rd Gens I've seen that have different stirrup lengths...I'm sure there are more and perhaps more experienced people will speak up. The easiest thing to do is just use the existing stirrup.
Any questions you have should also me posted in the Semi-Automatic Pistol section....you'll probably get more attention than in the Gunsmithing section.
