Default Red Dot Problem

I bought a used Optima 2000 red dot and installed on my Lew Horton Comp .40. Windage adjusted fine. Elevation also adjusted fine except I was hitting low at max adjust. So, I bought a tapered shim and ground down some new longer mounting screws. I go back to the range and no surprise I'm hitting high now. But, I'm way left, too.

More bad news. My adjustments are both dead. I no longer get movement either way. I take the shim off and go back to original screws and yeah, I'm close again, but adjustments still don't seem to respond. What happened? What did I do?

I hope I'm just making a couple of mistakes here and somebody can guess at the cause of my problems.

I would, but Optima is no longer in business. J-Point is the new owner of the technology.

I have 2 Jpoints. They both have been sent back because the adjustments stopped working. They were a pia even when they worked. Jpoint replaced them both.

I am down to 1 working Jpoint. 1 does not adjust. I'm not sending it back. I'm done with them. fWhen the 2nd one stops working this time, I'm through with them.

I can't fault JPL, the company. But the product........

Thanks so much for the reply. I bought the pistol with an Optima installed, but the adjustments were dead. Like a fool I replaced with another used Optima--that quickly died. It's starting to look like a lesson learned here.

I had similar problems with the Burris Fast Fire. The size and design are perfect, but why can't they work? I still back with my old Tasco PDP2 red dot. I also had to send in a Millet 30mm tube red dot for the dot quitting working. Was replaced with a new one no charge. I didn't know Millet is now owned by Bushnell.
