Default Installing pre-model number K38 cylinder stop springs?

I have two pre model number K38s. One is a 1954 Combat Masterpiece; the other is a 1949 Target Masterpiece. The cylinder stop spring assembly under the 5th screw is different in each gun.
The 1954 gun has a stud with a shank the spring fits on. The 1949 gun has a stud without a shank that fits against the base of the spring.
I have risassembled both guns at one time or another and did not note how the spring assembly came out, trusting Kuhnhousen to help me put it back together. However, the shop manual does not show a cutaway of which end goes against the cylinder stop for either gun. Q: Does the spring ride on the cylinder stop, or does the stud ride on the cylinder stop?

The spring goes between the screw and the cylinder stop plunger. See schematic below......

The newer gun parts look like that, and it went together easily and works properly. The older gun has a plunger without the stud for the spring to slide over. Does this mean that part was broken at some point in the past and I need to find a plunger with the stud?

ETA: Found correct plunger at Numrich for the K38 - requires stud. Ordered part (plus spare for parts box).

It's possible that the design of the plunger was revised, however, my older K series (1905 M&P) has the "spring over plunger" design in the schematic.
I think they remained the same until the screw and plunger were eliminated.

Thank you for the help and schematic. I'll update the thread when the part comes in and I install it.
