Default DA sear fitting with new hammer??

Trying to replace the hammer on a 649-2 but the new DA sear keeps binding on the engagement hook on the trigger. The sear doesn't have the clearance to reset with the trigger at rest and binds the gun up.

The new hammer and sear have enough slight differences, barely noticeable by eye, that the sear catches and will not reset. It seems the DA sear is too long.

How to fix? Modify the DA sear? The trigger?

Anyone know of any reference material where this info could be found?

The reason for hammer replacement is the original was modified for DAO.

Detailed instruction on sear fitting can be found in the Jerry Kuhnhausen book. However, using the sear from the old hammer usually works. I'd try that first.

Thanks!

I tried the old sear but it was a no-go. Seems the pivot hole on the new hammer is just a hair lower.

I'll order the book. Didn't want to buy a book if it didn't have the info I needed. Thanks for the heads-up!

Sir - If the sear is already installed on the hammer, install and assure that there is .015 to .020 clearance between the sear and the trigger. If not, remove the hammer, install in vise, eye level the bottom of the sear, trim sear slightly with fine thin file keeping the sear angle the same as when you started. Just a little then recheck to see tolerance is correct. If it is, action should function properly.
