Hi,
I just joined the forum. My first “good” pistol (after a troublesome High Standard Duramatic), was a Model 28 in 1973. Was a big purchase while in graduate school but learned to shoot with it. People seem to be getting rid of revolvers around here so I have picked a couple (some good some not so good) I just purchased a used Model 15 and the SA trigger pull is too light. In reading forum posts I ordered some rebound springs (and tool) while I was traveling. I am back home and tested the action (also from reading a post on the forum) and the hammer can be made to fall with a slight push. I haven’t open the side plate up and don’t have the rebound springs yet. Is there any hope a stronger rebound spring will be enough to save this? If not what is recommended, order a new hammer, send it to S&W or try and find a local smith or what should I look for on the inside? The slide plate screws were a bit messed up and I could tell trigger was light I figured a home smith had worked on it but didn’t know about pushing on hammer at time of purchase. (Education is expensive).
On the good news side I picked up a 3” model 36 that offhand groups all in the 8 ring (would be better but slight shift to the right) of a 25yd NRA target. It is my new favorite.
Thanks
Check out the Sticky and under post 6, there is a correction for push off.
A rebound spring change will not correct the problem, and you can't be sure that the fix under post 6 will. Someone has stoned where they shouldn't have or at least to the degree. It may require a new hammer and possibly a trigger. Depends on the issue.
