Am I missing a part on my 4586?
So, I showed my new (to me) 4586 to my neighbor and his friend yesterday. Both of them pulled the slide back and then released it without holding onto the slide, slamming the slide to the end of travel. Now, it has a problem cycling a bullet...the magazine doesn't seem to feed fully when the slide is drawn back. I took it apart and noticed that there is a circular washer atop a plastic plunger under the slide. I don't know the terms, but I included a picture. Is there supposed to be 2 circular discs?

It looks just like it should. If you bought the gun used it is likely the slide has been dropped like this dozens, if not hundreds of times. While this is not the preferred method it will cause no damage which would have any effect on feeding. It is most likely a magazine/ammunition issue. The magazine probably needs to be adjusted by someone who understands these things. Try a new factory magazine and the problem will probably be solved. You can always use another magazine too.

You say the magazine doesn't feed fully. Can you be more specific? did you successfully fire the pistol prior to this problem?
(Please attempt the following procedures at a range with the pistol pointed downrange.)
Will the slide not pick up a round from the magazine? Will the round not seat when the slide is released from the rear-most position?
One possibility cause of a feeding priblem is a magazine spring being installed backward. If the spring is in backward the cartridge will not lay at the proper angle and the last round in the magazine will not feed.

The gun fired flawlessly when I bought it, and never had any issues. I don't know for sure what the issue is, but it seems to bind when feeding a bullet from a full magazine...the rod under the barrel pushes forward and stays there after a round is chambered, and the bullet doesn't eject when you bring the slide back. It feels like the magazine isn't fully engaged, but it may be...I'm new to semi-auto pistols. It only happens when I slide the top part back slowly...if I am quick when sliding it back and letting it come forward, it works ok. I may be overthinking the issue, too.

Is this happening after firing a round or when operating the slide manually?
.the rod under the barrel pushes forward and stays there after a round is chambered,
It appears that you are describing an out of battery condition, (Slide not fully forward.)
and the bullet doesn't eject when you bring the slide back.
If it is not going into battery, a failure to eject could be common.
It feels like the magazine isn't fully engaged, but it may be..
Is this with the slide open or closed?
.I'm new to semi-auto pistols. It only happens when I slide the top part back slowly..
It is only designed to operate properly when the slide is drawn fully to the rear and released.
.if I am quick when sliding it back and letting it come forward, it works ok.
This sounds to be working correctly.
I may be overthinking the issue, too.

I hope this has been helpful. If not, come on back.

In this one statement above, I see two possibilities: (1) The pistol was reassembled incorrectly; or, (2) You are riding the slide forward, thus slowing its movement enough to induce a failure to feed.
When loading a round, always run the slide full speed.
It is best, however, if not loading a round, that you allow the slide to go forward slowly. It probably will not hurt anything if you don't, but it does avoid a certain amount of abuse, I suppose.

It is only when I manually move the slide...I guess it's just me over thinking the issue, then. Sorry for the false alarm, but thank you for all of the help. I am glad places like this exist...good to know there are good people in this world!
