Thumbs up Rusty's Rags: A Mini Review

pistolkit_300dpi.jpgIn case you all haven't heard of Rusty's Rags, it's simply another alternative brand of gun and knife cleaning accessories that use a propriety silicone gun oil that along with the sheepskin applicator and flannel buffing cloth, makes for one better "mouse trap" IMHO.

The gun cleaning kit which I received from Rusty's includes a sheepskin applicator, a bottle of "Rusty's Famous Silicone Gun Oil", and a flannel polishing cloth. The sheepskin applicator comes already charged up with the silicone oil, but when it dries out, a simple drop of oil to the sheepskin chrages it back up. I found that adding just one drop to the sheepskin pad provided for cleaning and lubing about 6 handguns, with no need to use the flannel polishing cloth, which is provided to aid in the removal of any excess oil one may apply; I learned the hard way by putting 5 drops on the sheepskin, and found the applicator deposited more then the necessary oil needed to clean and lube your gun, necessitating my having to use the flannel cloth to remove the excess oil.

What's to love, you ask, and for $20.00 for the basic kit...well, it's the first time in over 50+ years of cleaning personal weapons where I didn't have to angst over bits and pieces of lint from those old dish rags or diapers that many use when cleaning their guns. Another thing, Rusty's oil is odorless, and I find that a major plus since I for one have never cared for the aroma of silicone or other gun cleaning fluids.

And the sheepskin...why is this so great, well, without any effort on my part, it gets in every nook and cranny, unlike other "applicators" like those worn out rags that require you to roll up into small points, or having to resort to using Q-tips to get into those spaces that ordinary rags can't get into.

The bottom line, and in order of importance, it's the sheepskin applicator that makes this kit a winner. Coupled with Rusty's unique silicone oil, and the flannel polishing cloth, one has what I can objectively state is the best gun cleaning kit on the market.

P.S. The basic pistol kit is $19.95...is it worth it, you betcha!!!

+1. The sheepskin is a great idea, why didn't I think of that. I always use it as the last step before putting a gun up.

A good habit to get into when using this or any other wiping rag especially a thick one like this is to MAKE SURE there are no particles, sand, or contaminants in it before using iton a gun. The thicker the rag the more likely it is to have junk caught in it. Not saying this isn't a good product, just make SURE it's clean!!

Agreed, but I don't use Rusty's on a dirty gun...after a throrough detailing using other products, I finish the job with Rusty's.
