Question Question on APEX Kits For M&P9c

Hi all,

So I am a new owner of a M&P9c after nearly 3 months of trying to find one. That being said one thing I do not like is the "gritty" trigger.

I am planning to upgrade the trigger system with a Apex Tactical kit but have a question on the differences between the 'FSS' and 'DCAEK' kits.

FFS: https://apextactical.com/store/produ...php?pid54.html
DCAEK: https://apextactical.com/store/produ...php?pid35.html

I understand the FFS kit provides a trigger pull of about 4-5 lbs and the DCAEK is about 5-5.5 lbs. Is this the only difference? I am OK with the lighter trigger pull, from both a shooting perspective and a SD/HD perspective.

I admit I am not used to "upgrading" parts so would like to hear from anybody with experience before making a decision. Also, being that I have the thumb safety model, is there anything I should look out for while making a decision on either of these kits?

I appreciate any and all advise

I installed the FSS kit in a customer's gun a few weeks back and it took the trigger pull from 7lbs down to 3 with a shorter reset and smoother pull. He loved it. No sure about the other one. I got my kit from Brownells.

Personally, I've found the Apex sear by itself is all you need to clean up the trigger nicely. If the trigger gets too light, just replace the return spring with a $3 mass compliant spring.

Thank you both for the replies. I think I am going to start off with the Apex sear and go from there.

I don't want "too light" of a trigger but prefer around 4-4.5 lbs or so pull. Smooth trigger, slightly lighter pull... would be a perfect handgun and convince me to sell my last Glock

I have the duty/carry kit in my M&P40 and I LOVE IT!!!. Infact I just ordered the AEK trigger. I can't wait to see how it works.

However I will say this. If you are a 3rd gen/1911 guy. These triggers are plastic, and you can feel the "flex" and "give". It may bug ya.

If you can't find it anywhere else, try Amazon.com. I purchased the Apex duty/carry kit for my M&P 40 & 45. The price was darn near wholesale too.

I want to get the Duty/Carry kit and then add the aluminum trigger. Apex sells the aluminum trigger by itself on their site for $75.

On their site, the FSS kit they sell says it comes with the aluminum trigger.

Hi Jonathan, and welcome to the wonderful world of M&P! Once you get it tuned to your liking you are going to love it! I installed the DCAEK kit and the part that took most of the gritty feel out was the USB, or ultimate striker block. If you can find a pic of the original vs the Apex you can see how much smother the USB is. Of course this kit also gives you the new sear and springs to help out. It made my 40fs go from good to great. Have fun, and let us know how it works for you.
