Default Lock-Tite and sight removal

I'm trying to remove the rear sight on my Shield. I've heard they're tough to get off, which turns out to be an understatement. Is there a way to disolve the lock-tite to help w/ the removal or other methods? Trying to avoid going to a gunsmith or buying an expensive tool, just like to do it myself if possible.

Thanks....Bruce

Loctite is acrylic, and it softens quite a bit between about 200 and 250 degrees. Use a hair dryer or a temperature controlled heat gun - when it's too hot to hold your finger on it, the Loctite will be soft. Loctite that is exposed can be softened with Acetone (which is flammable - so don't use the acetone and THEN the heat gun!).

A trick I've used on sights in general and specifically on my M&P9c, is to put the slide in the freezer overnight or at least for several hours.

The metal shrinks and it's easier to get the parts to move. Don't know if that would help with locktite but it's the only way I could get my front sight off.

I got my rear sight set screw to turn on my M&P40c after heating it up.

Many Loctite adhesives are purposely formulated to soften at higher temperatures to allow separation of joined parts. And acetone will dissolve Loctite. The problem is that there are maybe 5 (or possibly more) different Loctite formulations, which are intended for different uses and have different ingredients.

Another vote for heat - assuming no plastic, I have used the oven set at 250 degrees - pre heat and put in the part for 30-45 minutes and pull out using an oven glove worked all three times.
