Smile Model 12 Refinishing

Hi:
Has anyone had a Model 12 refinished ?
Usually a Model 12 for sale is blued and scratched "Big Time".
Is it possible to have a Model 12 is such condition to be refinished to "Brushed Nickel/Chrome" ??
Thanks,
Jimmy

To electroplate or reanodize a Model 12, you must first remove all steel components (barrel, trigger, hammer and rebound spring studs and then plate or anodize. The steel components will react with the acid used for anodizing and will likely contaminate or react with one of the plating baths. It is also necessary to remove the anodized layer berfore reanodizing or plating to expose only bare aluminimum. If this is done mechanically (buffing/polishing), you run the real risk of not removing all the anodized coat and have a bad finish. If it is done chemically, the reaction between the steel parts (if not removed) and the caustic deanodizing bath is unpredictable. It may be possible to mask off the pins, but the barrel must be removed.

Why not look at one of the spray-on/bake on coatings as an easier way to refinsh and cosmetically restore the revolver?

I sent an email to Robar guns asking about NP3 and a model 12. They replied the finished product would have a smooth uniform appearance and the steel and aluminum parts would look the same.

What I've seen of their work looks really good. Not as good as blued steel, but good, and apparently durable.
