Howdy All...I recently got a 686 in trade. The only flaw I found is that when the cylinder is unlocked the thumb piece will move back and forth instead of remaining forward...If the cylinder is out and you hold the revolver muzzle up the hammer can be cocked back...Based on prior experience with S&W's, I'd guess its missing the bolt plunger and or bolt plunger spring...What say ye?...If that is likely, I figured I'd order a couple before I mess with it further...Thanks

Before I ordered anything, I would disassemble and do a head count on parts. I have round many revolvers that due to previous lubricants used, will be gummed up. My guess is that the parts are there, but the spring force can't overcome the friction of gummy lubes.

I tapped off the sideplate and as suspected...no bolt plunger. Whoever did the hammer bob job must have lost that part...So, ordered the plunger and spring and a tool to deal with the rebound spring...That thing is a booger without the proper tool...The rest of the internals are fine but did have some dried up old grease on them...Thanks
