Default M&P rear sight removal
Do you have to have a sight removal tool to take the rear sight off of a M&P 40?

No but a sight removal tool is cheap and REALLY helps.

Other than an Allen wrench for the set screw, probably not. BE ADVISED the retainer plate, spring and striker safety plunger are located under the right hand side of the rear sight. You don't want to be searching around on the floor for those parts.

You might need a brass driftpin to get the sight moving. Viewing the slide from the rear, it should go off left to right.
