Hello all,

New to the forum here. I recently bought a Bodyguard 38 for my wife for her carry needs but both of us are having some slight problem with sight acquisition on the factory black sight.

I have read up online and have purchased a XS Big Dot tritium sights.

Has anyone have experience installing the sights? I have always been a semi auto kind of guy so my experience is limited to working with dovetail sights. From what I have read, the BG38 uses a pin.

Any insight would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
Marcus

You could contact the company for detailed installation instructions for your particular model. I recently installed one of their replacement sights on a Ruger SP101. Removed the roll pin, installed the new front blade. Carefully drilled the hole in the new blade as instructed (approx 1/2 way through from each side). Re-installed roll pin. Very minor fitting was required to fit the base of the new blade to the slot prior to drilling.

Thanks armorer951

I actually just installed one on mine yesterday. Mine didn't come with a new roll pin or require any drilling. I'm not sure if it's a new design specific for the Bodyguard, but installation was a breeze.

Thanks. I did get it installed without too much hassle. Its a real treat now to my old eyes.

I got mine from Amazon.com for $54.00.

If anyone wants to know more about the install, let me know. It is the same as the LCR in the above video. It does not require any drilling, filing, etc. Just remove the roll pin, remove sight, install XS sight, reinstall roll pin. Be careful not to break the pin as it is very easy to do so. Make sure the sight is seated all the way before attempting to drive it in. I have done this install twice on two bodyguards and the first time I attempted it, I broke the roll pin and S&W had to send me a replacement. The XS sight does NOT come with a new roll pin in contradiction to the statement in the video for the LCR.

So, can someone tell me if this procedure/sight will work to replace the front sight on a 649?

Thanks

If it has a pin it ought to be a simple job; although I'd check with the X-s people.

I put a BIG dot tritium one on a Glock 19 and love it. I'd like to put one on an older milled sight (not pinned) 442 but think it would be a lot more involved. Still worth a thought...

I just installed the site, its a little loose as in it rocks a little bit fore & aft. I'm going to remove it to look at the sight. I'm gonna use Loctite on the site base and the roll pin. I hope that helps
