Default Broken Firing pin

Ok, when its on the hammer is it called a firing pin ?
I think I remember hearing it called something else but apparently I have forgotten.
Anyway, after shooting Smiths for at least 40 years I have finally had one break.
Was I just super lucky , or is it a rare occurrence ?
Do I just drill out rivet to replace ?
Is a special tool needed ?
Chris

I never thought I would ever break a hammer(nose) but I finally did on a police trade I bought. The rivet is easily knocked out and they are getting hard to find. I reused my old rivet back and flared it back with with a center punch. I bought the new nose on the forum.

Not a common occurrence but they do break once in a while.

When you replace the FP you can carefully knock out the old rivet and reuse it. They are getting rather hard to come by these days so you might not want to waste a perfectly serviceable one.

Before replacing the FP remove the hammer from the gun!

Is it an L frame. If so, I have some hammer noses and rivets.

Is this a great site or what?!!! I too have bought these parts as needed from a member here! Hammer noses are very hard to break but the rivets can work loose for various reasons.
