Hello members. Been lurking and learning a lot, but only joined yesterday.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and am looking for recommendations for a good (emphasis on good) gunsmith in the Bay Area. I am trying to find one within driving distance in order to avoid issues with sending my gun out of the area via UPS or FedEx.
Currently, I am contemplating a simply trigger job on a N-frame. Might expand to chamfer the cylinders and possibly new sights. May expand from there and/or have some work done on my Colts. Nothing too extravagant. Any recommendations?

San Francisco area isn't known for its revolversmiths.

Strongly suggest: 1) searching and asking on Calguns.net, where local-specific knoweldge runs deep; 2) contacting local (if any) competitive shooting clubs like IDPA and asking the revolver guys who they recommend; 3) contact local PD, ask who they used for armorers back in the revolver days and who's still around that you could ask to do some work; and 4) Contact John Jardine, best gunsmith I'm aware of near you but is a 1911 guy, and see if he might recommend someone.

San Francisco sure used to be known for its revolversmiths. F. Bob Chow, 3185 Mission St. NOW there was a gunsmith. He passed in 2003. One of the real greats, both shooter and smith. I used to drop in there all the time when I worked in San Francisco in the early 70's.

Yep. Chow's store, too, has been run out of the city -- the last firearms store in town.

You didn't happen to know a Detective Callahan at the time, did you?

No, didn't know any of the police there. I was a Mercedes-Benz mechanic working at the dealership workshop on Clay at VanNess. Used to shoot at the outdoor range in the state park near South San Francisco. Can't remember the name of it.

It has been decades since I was there, but perhaps you were referring to Sharp's Park Shooting Range? I can't remember whether it had a pistol and/or rifle range. I remember going there with a case of clay pigeons and shells and throwing my own from their manual throwers mounted on top of 55-gallon drums. Brings back old memories.

I knew Detective Inspector Callahan back in the 60s. Got in some trouble for waving a 44 mag around in public. Quit the SFPD, changed his name to ???? Eastwood and opened a pub (Hog..something) in Carmel, CA. Oh yea, made a few movies I hear.

If you don't mind a modest drive I can highly recommend Ken Genneco in Stockton. He has done some excellent revolver work for me. Not super fast, but very, very good.
