Default Tips or tricks for sear replacement?

Need to put a new hammer in a N frame so need to swap the sear any tips or tricks? I have a good set of Starrett punches just kind of worried about losing the little spring in the process.

Thanks,
-Mike

Only tap the sear pin far enough so you see the little jump when the sear is free of the sear pin and is now riding on the punch you are using. Leave the sear pin exactly at that point. This will let you control the spring when you remove the punch. A large plastic bag doesn't hurt either, nor a spare spring. :~)

Use a Steel Bench Block and a small Ball Peen Hammer - NOT an oversized one. Check to make sure your Punch is not dinged up before punching out pin. Those small diameter punches periodically need to be re-surfaced but don't over heat them on a grinding wheel or you will loose the temper. Go slow - use water and you do not want to see it turn blue! Remove any burrs before using.

Lubricate parts lightly before reinstallation.
