Heat shield for 296?
If this has been answered, please forward link. thanks
My 396 Night Guard (steel cylinder) has a heat shield above the forcing cone to protect from flame cutting the frame. I do not see any such shield on the 296 or 396 which have the titanium cylinder. These are all .44 Special.
Why, and is it advisable to have Smith and Wesson cut the frame to install a shield in on my intended purchase of a 296? It seems like a trivial task. Thanks.

I think the shield is to protect the 396 Night Guard scandium frame. Not sure why the other scandium frame models would not have them. Are they magnums?

I don't think the 296 is Scandium.
Not sure about the shield issue.

296, 396 ML have titanium cylinder, night guard has steel cylinder
all are .44 special
only night guard has flame shield

This was mentioned in another thread recently. I believe those Ti cylinder revolvers with the silver frames are aluminum alloy frames, not Sc/Al alloy. That's what the SCSW shows for the 296 Ti Airlite anyway. S&W must feel it's not needed on them, just the Sc/Al frames.
