Might be adding either a Pachmayr Compact or a Pachmayr Diamond Pro grip to my Round butt Model 60. Anybody have a comparison between the two as far as size and comfort?

I have both L and N frames wearing Diamond Pro grips and find them very comfortable. I haven’t tried them on a J frame yet. In fact I’ve never seen the J frame size although I know they make it in that size.

Let me put it this way, I removed and replaced the Compacts on every gun I got that came with Compacts. On the other hand I have added Diamond Pro grips to several of my guns and will probably add DP’s to several more.

The DP material is better than the Compacts in my opinion. It absorbs recoil well and provides a good secure grip. YMMV

I have both but not for the same gun. The Diamond pros are definitely softer and absorb recoil better. The downside is having to remove the locator pin and the grip is so soft mine tend to rub off a little like a pencil eraser. However I carry mine in the field a lot so that might not concern you. This has not caused any problems I can see other than cosmetic which with rubber grips is not of primary importance.

The Diamond Pros are definitely more cushy. I've put them on some of my J, K, L, & N-framed snubbies.

I have the Compacs on my N-frame Night Guards but not on a J-frame. They are not as fat, or soft, as the Pros.

Also, on some of mine, the Compac grip halves don't line up, or stay lined up, on the backstrap seam. The Pros are one-piece & don't have that problem.

I use the Pros mainly for range day outings, as they really soak up recoil, & put a smaller grip back on afterwards.

I have compacs on my K frame because I wanted the smallest footprint for a grip but didn’t want to go to wood grips. The backsteap is exposed and they extend just a smidge below the grip frame. I like the UM boot grips on my j frames and thought these compacs were very similar, just no finger grooves

can't find my original post, about trying out the ERGO Delta grips for j frames. One gentleman gave a detailed report. Sorry to say- I put them on my 642 enhanced action today, and the recoil was just the same- in the web between thumb and finger and accuracy was worse. Putting my Hogue grips back on.

I have owned 2 sets of J Frame Compacs over the last 40 years as well as a set 2 sets of Compac Professionals ( J & K frame) and all were a one piece clamshell design so that both haves lined up just fine. I use the J Compacs on whichever one I'm taking to the range.

Have the Diamond Pros on an SP 101 in 357 and they absorb recoil big time. I stop shooting magnums when the Diamond Pros come off.

I had a set of Compact grips on my M60 for a few months but disliked the grabbiness of them on my clothing. They also precluded pocket carry. On the other hand they did a great job while shooting - just inconvenient for CCW - EDC purposes.
