Mod 65-3 cylinder crack?
Been thinking about selling 65-3 and found what looks like a couple of hairline cracks on cylinder . They can be felt with finger nail , don't look deep or sharp edges. Bought it from Pawn shop a few years ago , may have been a LEO trade in. I have always shot .38 spl FMJ and a few .357 158 gr. Will have it checked by gunsmith and sell if ok or sell as parts gun

My guess is those are deep tool marks, not cracks, but would confirm this with a gunsmith as you are already planning.

Yes, tool marks or an oops from energetic cleaning.

I agree with Murphy and Dr. Lou. Those don't look like cracks. If in doubt, have it Magnafluxed.

Maybe scratches from using a sharp tool to remove carbon build up.

Somebody probably cleaned up the face of a carbon imbedded cylinder with a fine cut file or a file wrapped with grit cloth. Got a little agressive and left some edge marks in the face in the process.
Poor mans Magna-Flux test.....dunk the cylinder in gasoline let it soak for moment. Then pull it out and wipe it off dry.
Let it stand and carefully watch those 'cracks'.
If they are really cracks, more gasoline will weep to the surface of them from down deep and show up wet on the surface.
If not crack(s), then wiping it dry,,it will just stay dry.

Second time I ever cleaned it with Hoppes9 and scotch brite pad, old gun had been well used and knocked around. Been thinking about selling it along with 10/22 to help fund a Mod 66 or 686. Thanks all for your help
