I apologize for the off topic question in advance, please indulge my question as this forum is a great source of information and I need advice.

I am trying to repair a friends Stevens 620A pump shotgun, that was his Grand Dad’s and I am unsure of how the slide lock spring should be installed. The old one was broken and the slide release lever was the one way the bolt would release. The bolt would not release after firing or pulling forward on the forearm as it should.

I have what looks to be the correct type of spring, it looks like the broken one. The “arm”?part of the old spring that activates the slide lever is the part that was broken off, so I am uncertain of how it wraps around the lever.

This 620A had the coil type spring that wraps around the hammer retaining pin, and I am confident I have the correct replacement spring.

I downloaded a copy of the old Army Technical Manual, however the photos are so blurry I can’t be sure how it attaches.

I’m pretty sure i can help you, but need to know if you can send me a picture of the spring you need to replace.

I think your spring needs to loop over and rest on the front stirrup of that little bracket on the slide release plate.

Look at the picture in this link-the spring is installed incorrectly and should be on top of the bracket.

Justin thank you so much !

Based upon the photos in the link you posted I do believe I made the same mistake.

Here are photos of how I installed the spring and the broken spring as well as the new spring.

Yeah, that’s it. You just need to hook the spring over the front part of that little bracket and you ar good.
