I just picked up a 4596 and the first thing was to strip and clean. Well, the hammer dropped while the slide was off and now; no trigger. Can someone instruct me on the repair sequence or do I need to take it to a gunsmith?
I am ready to be put in the town center, locked in the stocks, and pummeled for my ignorance. Let the bashing begin!
Tanks for any help that may be offer.

Sorry, never smithed one of those. It's unusal that an auto gets broken by accidentally dropping the hammer with the slide off. Believe me, you are not the only person to do that.
Just as a guess, are you working against the mag disconnect. Have you tried to dry fire with an unloaded mag in the well? Hope that is all that your problem is.
