Greetings All,

Due to a cracked stock, I was forced to replace the stock on my Winchester Model 70 XTR Featherweight in 30.06 several years ago.

I was lucky enough to find a replacement stock and the switch was made. Now years later, being a thrifty New Englander, I decided to try to repair/glue the original cracked stock.

There was a stabilizing screw in the original stock covered by a black plastic plug. Apparently that plug was removed and now I need to replace it.

I have searched online and checked several firearm parts suppliers without success.

Wondering if anyone here has run into this situation and can direct me to somewhere where I can purchase a replacement.

I have considered using a wooden plug but not being able to sand it flush with the existing stock surface without hurting the gloss finish could prove difficult.

You could call Winchester, Numrich Arms, FN, or some rifle oriented gun shops across the Country. While I am certainly no computer wiz, you might seek out someone who could "print" one on their 3D printer.

Measure the required diameter and check ebay for the closest size ebony dowel rod. It shouldn't be too hard to glue a piece in place.

Great idea. My concern is how to sand it flush to the stock without scratching the high gloss finish?????
I suppose the only way might be to remove the plug sand it, replace it, remove, sand some more and continue the process until it looks right.
