The discussion of aging eyes and sighting problems on the CC sub forum has prompted me to ask if anyone here can recommend a reliable smith or performs this machining to mount a rd sight on a 3953 pistol. I’ve had the pistol for a few years and I am comfortable and confident with it. I have a strong preference for Dao pistols when carrying concealed. While the night sights on this gun are far easier for my eyes to acquire than those on my mod 38, I am expecting my eyesight to continue to degrade. Trying the inexpensive red dot on the CPX pistol was a “proof of concept” for me. But CPX is not what I want for edc. Would like to mount a small rd on my 3953. Anyone have recommendation?

My local guy did the work for me. I have an early (pre-Novak sight) 5906 and have an Vortex red dot that I wanted on it. I wanted to go with a rear sight mount instead of milling the slide. After a lot of interaction with guzzitaco on the forum, I called EGW. After that conversation, they recommended getting the blank mount (HERE). My local guy was able to machine the mount to match the rear sight dovetail and it worked out great.

So where are the photos, you're asking. I don't know! I took some but they're not on my phone for some reason. I'll find them when I'm home and post them over the weekend.

Here are the photos I promised. The red dot is somewhat high for the level of the bore, so I suspect I'll have some difficulty in sighting the gun in when I do so (hopefully soon). I think it'll be ok because this is a purely a home self-defense gun, so if it's sighted in at 10 yards, that's all I'll need.
