Firing pin help
Does anyone here know if the firing pin on a pre model 17 (1956) four screw and the model 17-3 or a model 17-4 firing pins are the same? I need a firing pin for a four screw S&W K frame .22 (1956 serial number) and can't seem to find one. If a 17-3 or 17-4 are the same it will make locating one a lot easier. Thanks for helping. BCM

They are most likely the same. You aren't out much money if the 17-3 firing pin has changed.

Hey OutWest50, thanks for responding. I can't believe how much trouble I'm having finding a replacement firing pin for a S&W 17. I thought it would be a slam dunk. Can't locate one anywhere. Keep trying I guess. BCM

You might try Smith and Wesson parts department if you haven't already done so. They may have the older parts in stock if there has been a revision or change. I believe the current part number is 21631.

If that is the correct part number, Midwest Gun Works has it in stock.

I don't believe the Midwest part is the correct one for the OP. Their photo looks like the current frame mounted pin.
The original Mod 17-4 pin is listed as part number 21343 in the S&W parts book. (from 1995)
This part number replaced the previous (discontinued) number 03712.
Sorry about the error.

Like Armorer951 said, S&W is your best sure bet if they have one. If not, you might try Jack First (call them); they have a lot of parts for older S&W's.
