    Regional foods

Here along the MS Gulf Coast our regional food is heavily influenced by the culture of S. Louisiana, especially NOLA, and also the southern country cooking of our inland neighbors. We love gumbo, wild Gulf shrimp, crabs, oysters, crawfish, red beans and rice on Mondays, jambalaya, and, of...

I went to the National WWII Museum in New Orleans today as a guest of the local Lions Club as part of their Veterans' Day observance. I can't express in words how wonderful the experience was. The museum fills two large buildings(and a third under development) and includes extensive exhibits...

How far are you willing to drive to look at a gun that is for sale?

Last year I made a Buy It Now on GB for a 95+% m15 2 inch for $350 and drove from S. MS to N. MS (250 miles) to pick it up on my Harley. Was a nice day for a ride and my gas expense was cheaper than UPS Overnight.

    Any info on thi gun:

You have a S&W Model 10-5 in .38 Special and it would have been shipped from the factory in 1961 or 1962, most likely early 1962. Prior to 1957 it would have been described as S&W Military & Police. Starting that year S&W added model numbers to their revolvers, thus your 10-5. It was a...

    Signs on animal cages

Years ago I visited the San Antonio Zoo and eventually found myself in the reptile house. In one enlcosure was a very large Western Diamondback with a sign that read "Please don't Tap On The Glass, What Would You Do If It Broke." The mental image instantly convinced me......no problem!

what was your first ccw handgun?

First ccw/off-duty gun in 1973 was a Charter Arms Undercover with 2 inch barrel. Kept less than a year until I saved enough for a new model 36 2 inch which I still carry regularly.

Neat things you have won over the years

About 10 years back I won a $500 drawing at the Cruisin' The Coast classic car cruise week. When I was about 10 years old I won a parakeet at a Saturday morning kiddie show at a local movie theater. Nothing since.

Broken hammer - drop in replacement?

Sometimes a different hammer will drop right in and sometimes it will need to be fitted. Your best chance for drop-in sucess is to remove the sear lever from the front of the old hammer and install it in the new hammer. In many cases that will work with no hand fitting necessary The sear is...

My daughter asked why I had a small fishing rod stowed in my trunk

Here on the MS Gulf Coast we call a cast net a "mullet gun." I suspect a "mullet rifle" may be a different name for the same thing. We also call mullet "Biloxi Bacon."

Has anyone been through S&W revolver armorers class?

Bill, we are almost carbon copies. When I left my original department they also told me to keep my toolkit and stock of parts for the same reason. Told me no use for them because nobody else was qualified to use them. I still have a fair amount of k-frame parts. Also, when we traded in our...
