    Relative rarity

Rare ? How about the 10 Model 44's. Or the 1976 Model 29's and Model 57 Bicentennial's? There are lots of one-of-a-kind special orders so how do you define rare? LOL

    K32 gold box

All the one's I have, and can remember having, were all identical accept for the serial number on the bottom. Remember there were a lot more boxes produced than the guns and the boxes come up on e-bay etc rather frequently. Dave Ballantyne in Fl is a wealth of info on K32's.

does anyone have a 5-screw airweight chief?

Pre 37 I have SN29065 which is a 4 screw 2" with the aluminum cylinder. Its has the bug screw at the top, a square butt with diamond grips and flat cylinder release. Haven't figured out how to reduce my pictures to a density that works on this site but I will post a pic if I can.

help needed on 38terrier and k22, mod 28

Pre M32,Pre M17 Assuming the Pre Model 32 or 38 Terrier has no prefix, it should date to late 54, early 55. The K22 or Pre Model 17 should date to late 57 or early 58. It is right at the start of Model # use,and I have a few K's with lower serial numbers which are model marked. Don't know about...

Just to add a little detail on 1 of these neat guns: SN163198 wears extended target stocks numbered 1168 on the bottom and have the faint but visible same serial number 163198 on the right grip panel. Shipped 1912. This is a very informative thread! Thanks to all participants. L Slaten

    Pre-30?

Based on a 640xxx serial number, is this not an Improved I Frame? My pre Model 633xxx is, and so is 686xxx which is a Model marked M30. The J frame started at the Model maked 30-1 in about 1960. Hope this helps.

Smith & Wesson Performance Center 356 TSW

.356 S&W Standard .356 has a slide mounted safety, and flat black finish with side flats polished to present a pinto appearence.I don't think it would take much to convert a 4006 to .356. I use .40S&W magazines in mine. More info would require 1 or 2 pictures. Hope this helps.

    A Forty Year Model 66

Early 66 I have M66 SN K949187, numbered 47 after yours. Silver box, and all. Got a letter from Roy saying the guns started at 949100 so we got REALLY early guns. Funny thing though. Shipments started in 1971 and mine shipped in 1975. 4 year shelf life. S&W did NOT ship in numerical sequence...

Recent pick up .32 Regulation Police-Nickle

RP Definition Maybe we can finally get a reasonable definition for a Reg Police. I always thought that it was the square butt that differentiated the RP from the .32 HE. Not true? I look forward to better definition! L Slaten

    Baby Chief Found In California

Great find! Glad to see you haven't given up the hunt! I got my Baby Chief SN 208xx, several years ago from Little John's, same shape as yours but cost me twice as much. If you can get to Phoenix this Dec, we have a really great show for 3 days. I'd like to get together some time to catch up.

    Auction houses

Auction Houses. Try Little Johns Auctions in Orange, Ca or Reata Pass Auctions in Dewey, AZ. Both have lots of guns, many Smith's, and some antiques. Both have on line bidding at their web sights. I've bought from both over the last 20 years. I also work a little at Reata Pass Auctions. Good luck.
