    Sierra no. 6 vs all

I would use the average charge weight from as many sources as possible. If one source is unusually high or low compared to the other sources, I would disregard it when averaging the powder charge. Be safe and start low and work up.

    Buck 300 Series Pocketknives

I carried a Buck Stockman #301 while on field operations in Vietnam. It was more useful than the big “fighting knives” that many troops carried. When it was stolen after I returned to the world, I replaced it with a #303 Cadet that is in my pocket this morning and has been used already today...

    S&W Mod 41

The 22 short magazine for the 41-1 is probably the most expensive magazine for the 41 series pistols. I can’t give you a value but do your research and don’t sell undervalued.

    6" Model 41

There is no such reference for a 6” model 41 barrel on page 279 in my third edition.

    S&W Model 41 should I buy it??

I think trawler is a bit high for a good condition model 41. His estimate is ok for a very good to excellent condition pistol. It’s hard to price one without good photos - your good condition may be my excellent. A model 41 sn 40352 shipped in August 1962 but 40171 shipped two years later in...

Light strikes not fixed by extended firing pin— gun or ammo?

I had the same problem with my 432UC. It went back to S&W twice but still had light strikes. An extended firing pin did not help either. Replacing the hammer spring with an 8.5lb spring seems to have solved my problem but I need to shoot a lot more to feel confident with it. Federal primers are...

    The story of 2 432UCs

My 432UC went back twice for light strike misfires. Each time they replaced the firing pin but that did not solve the problem. I replaced the hammer spring with a standard 8.5lb spring and it has worked flawlessly since then. I’ll have to put some more rounds down range before I trust it enough...

432 UC Anyone having good luck

My 432UC went back to S&W twice for light strike misfires and still didn’t work. I replaced the hammer spring with a standard weight and it has been perfect so far. I’ll be a little more confident that it’s fixed with more range time but I’m thinking that it’s good to go now. I’m a big fan of...

Taking Notes and Other Random Thoughts

An Excel spreadsheet is your best friend for keeping a shooter’s log book. With it, you can customize what data you want to keep and add or delete what categories you’re using. Even better, you can use it to sort or search your data. I have a file called reloading logbook. Every firearm I own...

    432uc still disappointing!

Hopefully this my last report on the 432uc problems. In my last post, I had some success in installing the hammer spring from a 642. I didn’t want to use that spring long term so it went back in the 642. Searching though my box of gun parts, I found a spring labeled 640 Pro that I’d forgotten I...

    432uc still disappointing!

Update: The extended firing pin arrived last Saturday and I got to the range Tuesday with guarded optimism. A real disaster! 7 out of 12 attempts were misfires. Using another load that I had carefully made to insure it was not an ammunition problem, I got 1 misfire out of 6. Disgusted I packed...

    432uc still disappointing!

An extended firing pin kit should be in today’s mail. When it gets here, I’ll install it in the 432 but it will be the first of next week before it gets range tested. If that doesn’t fix the problem, I’ll put in a new hammer spring and try that. I will post the results when I’ve finished with...

    432uc still disappointing!

Yesterday my 632uc came back from its second return to S&W for light strike misfires. They replaced the firing pin - again. This morning I took it to the range to see if it had been fixed. Twelve rounds of Magtech 32 long wadcutter with two misfires. Next I tried my reloads, also in 32 long with...

    Grip Finish Preference

I’m with Bill on his preference. The gloss finish is a turn off for me.

    Estate sale find

One in the blister package exactly like DarryH has was sold on 28 July on E-Bay for $97 plus shipping of $11 and whatever sales tax. It was incorrectly advertised as a ten round but the photo clearly showed 12 rounds. A couple of bidders obviously knew what they were bidding on.

    Estate sale find

You ought to be very happy. $25 for an unopened M41 magazine is a steal! But this one is an unusual, hard to find, 12 round magazine! They were introduced in 1992 but were ended by the Brady “assault weapons” ban in 94. You could sell it to a collector and use the funds to buy several magazines...

    Model 34-1 4"

Very nice! The Standard Catalog shows it as a 1973 model. The stocks are aftermarket but are attractive and easier to hold than the original magna stocks. This one looks like it spent a lot of time in its box or in a sock drawer. Enjoy this gem and let us know how it shoots.

Disappointed with S&W service on M432UC

I was using Magtech 32 longs and reloads with CCI-500 primers. I shouldn’t have to restrict myself from using any factory ammunition or good quality reloads with any primer. There are five other 32H&R S&W revolvers in my collection that have been fired many times without any problems using my...

Disappointed with S&W service on M432UC

Back to S&W again As of 3:24pm, my revolver is in the hands of FedEx on its way back to S&W. We will have to wait and see what they do. I’m not going to get my hopes up for a good answer from S&W. I’ll follow up with a post after it comes back.

Disappointed with S&W service on M432UC

I received my M432UC from the service dept on 9/10/24 after six weeks. The next morning I took it to the range to make sure they had fixed the misfire problem due to light strikes on the primer. After shooting only 22 rounds, I packed it up because of two misfires. It’s not fixed! The primer on...
